Extra Virgin Olive Oil

I am obsessed with Extra Virgin Olive Oil.  I splurge when I can.  I like the bright green ones with the most olive flavor.  This is my mini- collection.

  • Santa Barbara Olive Company is my daily salad dressing one.  It is full with flavor, but not overwhelming.  I order online from their website because the little bottles I find in my grocery stores last about a week for me.
  • My dad gave me the PAUL No.2 PAUL is a french bakery and cafe.  It’s everywhere in Paris and there’s one in Istanbul.  This one happens to be made with Turkish olives from Artvin – Northen Turkey.
  • The one in the ceramic  bottle is my cooking olive oil.  Moderatly priced Colavita from any grocery store.
  • LA is a spanish olive oil and of course I prefer the “Intenso” blend.  There’s also a milder one.  I buy this from Joan’s on Third in Hollywood, but recently saw in the Crate&Barrel stores also.My Mini Olive Oil Collection

Cauliflower Salad

I have been wanting to try the cauliflower salad recipe I saw on tastespotting.com by Lucullian Delights. I didn’t follow the recipe exactly. I used cherry tomatoes instead – I think they re sweeter and more flavorful. And I believe in the power of a salad dressing rather than adding oil and vinegar separately. So I made a vinaigrette instead. I copy/pasted the recipe from Lucullian Delights and added my dressing recipe.

Cauliflower Salad

White Wine Viniagrette

White Wine Vinegar
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Minced Garlic
Salt and Pepper
– Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and mix well with a whisk.

Cauliflower Salad

1 small head of cauliflower
2-3 mature but firm and tasty tomatoes
2-4 tblsp capers
Fresh basil (can be substited by parsley or fresh oregano), as much or little as you want
Mild white wine vinegar
Salt
Extra-virgin olive oil

- Slice the cauliflower very finely, the best is to use a mandolin.
– Chop the tomatoes finely and add them to the cauliflower.
– Add capers, shredded basil, a little vinegar, salt and olie oil to the other vegetables.
– Mix well and serve!

24 Red Velvet Cupcakes

I never understood what the big deal with cupcakes were until I had Auntie Em’s Red Velvets in Eagle Rock. They are responsible for me joining the cupcake madness. So this valentines day I made my first red velvets. After some research, I decided to make the Paula Deen recipe from Food Network. When it comes to baking and butter, I couldn’t imagine her recipe not working out. They were even better than Auntie Em’s. Now I need another excuse to make more!

You can get the recipe here.
